Oscar 11 is the ship my grandmother sailed on from Norway to America in 1911. She was 19 yrs old.. Ship built by Alexander Stephen & Sons, Glasgow, Scotland, 1901. 10,012 gross tons. 515 feet long, 58 feet wide. Steam triple expansion engines. Service speed 16 knots. 1,170 passengers. Built for Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, in 1901 and named Oscar 11. Laid up 1931-33. Scrapped in Scotland in 1933. (Photo Credit Peabody Essex Museum)
